Life with Sophia....

So we are just living life with a baby.... our lives as parents has been interesting :) We are learning something new everyday from this little person. We are mainly learning how to take care of her! What she wants and needs.... it not an easy task and every day there is something new to learn :)

Well, she is still eating VERY well and sleeping pretty good. She usually gives us 4 hours in between feedings and diaper changes.... that has been pretty consistent.

Sophia informed me last night that she doesn't hate baths, she hates being cold.... so if I could warm her up with a quickness after her bath she would greatly appreciate it! ha ha!!

Here's a picture I took yesterday of Daddy with Sophia. :-) We were getting ready to go to the grocery store and run a few errands.

Here's a picture of Booger-Head :) He is such a good dog!

Sophia's 2nd Doctor visit.....

We took Sophia back to the doctor today for a routine check-up! She is right on schedule! She weighs 9 pounds 12 ounces!! She is 22 inches long.... she has grown an entire inch in 2 weeks! HOLY COW! ;-) She is doing just great!

She was such a good baby the entire time and she let the nurse weigh her and measure her. Then she let the doctor listen to her lungs and her heart and she didn't give him any grief! By the way, lungs and heart are doing just fine! They all sound great!

We are truly truly blessed to have such a healthy little girl! Mommy and Daddy are very thankful for our little Christmas miracle!!!

And we have more pictures of our baby!

Grandma King and I were playing dress up with Sophia and her new Christmas outfit ;-)

Could she be any cuter???

I just had her in this outfit and she crapped her diaper! LOL! Then I changed her and she crapped again!

She HATES baths!!!!

She loves to be snuggled and cuddled!!!

More pictures of Sophia ;-)

This picture was taken this morning ;-) She is asleep with her arms up like that!

Her Great Uncle Pat came and visited with her last night, he was in town for work.

For all you Sophia lovers! Here are some recent pictures of her ;-) By the way, that outfit is a little big but it should be; it's a 3 month size!!!!!
Sophia has a very healthy appetite and she has been consuming roughly 20 ounces of breast milk a day!!! Not bad for a 1 week and 1 day old baby! Also, I guess because she is such a big girl; she has been sleeping through the night. For the past two nights she went to bed around 10 or 11 and didn't wake up until 6:30 the next morning... I HOPE she keeps that up and it's not some freak thing that will stop!
She has to go back to the doctor on Monday and we will see how she has progressed since she's been born ;-)

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! 13 DAYS LATE BUT FINALLY HERE!!!!!

Here's Gamma holding Sophia :)
Grandma King didn't get her picture made with Sophia but she wasn't far from the action;-)

Sophia Kendall Dempsey has finally made her appearance into this world!!!! SHE IS PERFECT!!!!!

So here is how it all went down.....

Mike took me to the hospital Monday morning, December 1st to check me in for an induction. So once all the paperwork was filled out and I was in my gown - they started me on cervadill (spelling). This is suppose to thin your cervix. Well we did this all day on Monday and by the end of the day my cervix was thinned and I was dilated to 1 centimeter ( I went into the hospital without anything happening in the cervix area). Soooo, Monday night JoAnn (midwife) and Lori (nurse) tried to insert a cervix catheter into my cervix to help open it up to 4 centimeters. Well, this did not work, my cervix was still closed up to much and the catheter would not fit. This was good news and bads... the good news was I was able to eat dinner ;-) I hadn't had anything to eat since 10:00 Sunday night and if the catheter had worked then I was not going to have dinner.

The bad news was, I was only dilated 1 centimeter and the plan was to try the induction on Monday & Tuesday but if it did not work then I was going to be scheduled for a C-section on Wednesday....

Ok - Tuesday morning, December 2nd!!! I woke up to Lori adding pitocin to my IV. This stuff worked like a champ! It had me on my knees begging for an epidural by 3:00 pm!!! No kidding!! I was ready to start pushing by about 3:30 pm! So we ( me, Mike, Lori and Dr. D) started pushing and pushed for about an hour. Then we took an hour and a half break then we pushed for about 2o minutes and BOOM at 5:46 PM, Our little girl was born weighing in at 9 pounds 1 ounce and 21 inches long!!!! Just as gorgeous as ever!!!!

So - that is pretty much how it went down - minus some pretty bloody details! ha ha! We are all home now and looking forward to what life has in store for us!
Here's our first day at home! Daddy is already spoiling Sophia ;-) She is definitely a daddy's girl!
If anyone is wondering how KJ is doing with Sophia... just check out the picture! He has been glued to my hip since I walked in the door and he does not like for Sophia to cry :) He is an awesome big brother and all he wants to do is give her kisses!!!

41 weeks and 0 days....

I can't believe this!!!! I am 41 weeks pregnant! My little Sophia has decided that she really wants to make a grant entrance into this world and it will be on her terms!!!!! Sigh.... well as far as I'm concerned, I am just ready to have her. I want to meet her! I want to see what she looks like! I want to make sure she is healthy and I want to put her little butt in all of those clothes that are hanging in her closet! :)

How's mommy doing???? Well, I am tired. That pretty much sums it up! My body is just sore and tired.....

Hopefully, the next time I post something it's Sophia's birth date!

40 weeks and 5 days

UPDATE......
Went to the doctor today and we have an induction date set for Monday, December 1, 2008. I also found out that I am not alone with an "over due" baby. Come to find out there are 7 other women at my doctor's office that are post due.

If anything happens between then and now, we will post another update.

40 weeks and 2 days...

So the fun continues.....

Yesterday we had quite an exciting day! Where do I begin.... first things first! Sophia is still living in my stomach and according to the midwife she is one step closer to birth. Her head is engaged but that's just about it. My cervix has not dilated ANY!!!

So at the doctor visit yesterday, they performed a NST (Non-evasive stress test) and we had an ultrasound done to check my fluid levels. Well everything is looking good! Sophia is not stressed and she has plenty of fluid... BUT remember... there isn't much room in there anymore!!!

They also told us that we will not go much past 41 weeks. So we are scheduled for another doctor appointment Monday at 10:00. I hope I don't make that appointment... I hope I'm holding her in my arms by that point and not in my stomach anymore ;-) But now that Mike is home!!!!!! I don't want to rush things and end up having a C-Section.

So, Wednesday I get a call from Mike and he tells me that he is packing his bag and headed to the house!!!! I just about freaked out! He was able to get off work until the end of December.... so the BIG QUESTION of him being here or not being has been answered by GOD!

GOD is taking care of us and he made sure that Mike will be here for his daughters birth, I'm still in shock and disbelief! It's truly a miracle how that worked out!!!!!

Oh... one other minor detail in the grand scheme of things here.... I weigh 180 pounds!!!!! I can't believe I weigh that much! Well, until I look at myself in the mirror and then I know I weigh that much!

40 weeks and 0 days!!!!!!!

WELL, WELL, WELL the baby is due TODAY!!!! WHERE IS SHE! WHAT IS SHE DOING!!!!! ha ha!

I am headed to the doctor tomorrow, they are going to run some tests to make sure Sophia is not under any stress and I am going to try my best to persuade them to induce me on Monday the 24th. I'm not sure how much pull I have but I'm still going to try....

It would really work out sweetly if they induce on Monday because Mike could travel home this weekend and the whole question about him being here or not being here will be answered.

Plus, we have my older sister getting here for Thanksgiving this weekend and possibly my sister-in-law coming in this weekend.... so it would be really nice if they could meet their niece!!!

I will write more when I know more!

39 weeks 0 days....

Well.... what do you know, 39 weeks and Sophia still wants to bond with Mommy!

According to the midwife, nothing has changed and we will just keep trucking along until next week!!

38 weeks 0 days.....

Ok - 38 weeks and counting.... well we had a doctor appointment yesterday and here's what we found out:

1.) Sophia is doing good, strong heart beat and continues to kick mommy :)
2.) Her head is engaged but no dilation or effacement to report. My cervix is still closed up!

3.) I'm still trucking right along with a good blood pressure and everything is still pretty much the same as far as the rest of my body goes.....

4.) I did gain 4 pounds; I weigh 178 (holy shit balls!) ha!

I asked the midwife about inducing and when it could happen. She informed me that they would not induce my labor until I reach the following requirements:

1.) I have to be 39 weeks along in the pregnancy and

2.) the cervix has to show some signs of change.

She said if I don't meet those requirements then they will not induce when the cervix is not showing any signs of "change" because it increases the changes of having a C-section and there isn't any reason for me to have one.

I explained to her that my husband is away and he will have to drive 8 1/2 hours to get home for the birth and if we could induce on my due date we would really like to shoot for that. She said, we will see what's happening next week with my cervix when I go back for my 39 week appointment, if it's showing some signs of change then we can talk about the induction. Other than that, all I can do is hang in there and keep doing what I'm doing because Sophia is healthy and that's our primary concern.

Over the past few weeks I have really really started liking Mike's shirts :) I even wear them to work now. I guess because I'm so far along (and big) nobody really says anything about it :) The shirts are just to comfy and it makes me feel like he's here with me :) ha ha! I'm a dork!

I also really love 1 pair of jeans now, I wear them pretty much every day and I will continue to wear them every day until we meet Sophia :)

According to Grandma Tersigni - 1 more full moon!!!!!! We will see if that holds true or not :) There's a full moon on the 13th of November.....

Last weekend Mom and I stayed pretty busy, on Halloween we handed out candy to the little kiddies! Then we shopped until we dropped on Saturday and on Sunday Mom had her Lia Sophia party, it was a hit! She entertained her guests with peach martini's and K's-mopolitans. She sold some jewelry and booked some more parties! She did great!!!
